Native California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) bring beauty and a splash of warm orange color to a drought tolerant garden. These plants are easy to grow and do not need any watering if planted before the winter rains. They will quickly go to seed and will eventually die off if they do not receive any water during the summer months, so some light maintenance is required to rake dried left over stalks. A surprise of more color awaits the gardener when leftover seeds sprout the following spring.
