The region most heavily impacted by the Los Angeles Aqueduct is the Owens Valley on the East Side of the Sierra. Despite the abundance of water in the Owens River, the Owens Valley is in a rainshadow and receives very little precipitation. Once a productive agricultural region, the landscape and way of life for the valley's residents has changed dramatically since LA bought the water rights to the Owens River. Looking north towards the towns of Lone Pine and Independence.
