A snowstorm blows into the Owens Valley. The snow deposited in the Sierra Nevada supplies the majority of the water to Los Angeles, despite the fact that the city is over 200 miles to the South. The melting of the ice and snow in the spring and summer provide a constant flow of water that supports the agriculture, industry and domestic needs of Los Angeles, which otherwise lacks a sufficient water supply. An ice covered Lake Crowley is in the foreground.
