Although plastic is a remarkable and cheap material for consumer products, it is perhaps the greatest bane to the health of our oceans. In fact, there are particular parts of our oceans, known as gyres, in which plastic is accumulating due to currents that force floating material into slowling circulating vortexes. Plastic bags, balloons, containers, fishing line, and packaging comprise the bulk of these floating trash heaps.
