In an example of coevolution, land iguanas in the Galapagos Islands have developed adaptive traits (sharp claws and climbing skills) which enable them to feed on their favorite food: the tender pads and blossoms of the opuntia cactus. As a result, the opuntia cactus has evolved into a medium sized tree with slippery bark in order to reduce predation. Male land iguana, South Plazas Island, Galapagos Islands.
