Sunset and calm waters at California's Mono Lake near the spectacular Eastern Sierra range of mountains. In the 1940's water was diverted from the lake to the Los Angeles area, causing the water levels to drop critically. Thanks to efforts by a citizen's group, the water levels are rising, thus enabling Mono Lake to provide a vital habitat for nesting and migrating birds.
