The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad was completed in 1882 to carry ore from the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Realizing that the train ride afforded spectacular views, it now carries passengers behind steam locomotives through the scenic mountains from Durango to Silverton, Colorado, The train has been in operation for 127 years.
