The dam's hydroelectric power station generates, on average, about 4 billion kilowatt-hours of power a year and is distributed to Nevada, Arizona, and California. It meets the energy needs of approximately 1.3 million people. Lake Mead is also a significant source of municipal drinking water and agricultural water for the region.
